on June 28, 2024 in Business Tips, Features

Enticing images capture the attention of Menulog customers, it also helps them understand the quality, size, or ingredients of the products you sell.

There are two types of images you can use on your listing:

  • Header images: appears on the search results page and at the top of your store listing. It should show at least five products from your menu
  • Item images: appear next to each item on your menu. Each image should only show the individual item it will be attached to

Getting your products camera ready

Here are some easy steps you can follow to help get your products ready to photograph, whether you’re doing it yourself or using a professional photographer (click here for info on accessing a free professional shoot).

  • Set up near a window or ensure there is a light source nearby so the product is well lit
  • Ensure there are no distracting elements around the item or its background e.g. clutter, dirty dishes, or extra packaging
  • Make the product stand out by ensuring the whole item is in-frame, with a clean and neutral background e.g. walls, tables, plates, etc.
  • Present products neatly and make sure you wipe away any drips, crumbs, or dust
  • Only prepare the number of items as per your Menulog menu e.g. ‘Spring Rolls 2 Pieces’ should only show two spring rolls, not more, not less

Taking good images

Here are some top tips to keep in mind when putting together any images for your menu:

  • Only include your products in the photo, without people, hands, cutlery or your storefront
  • It should be a photograph – no illustrations, drawings, graphics or screenshots
  • Photos should be of your actual store’s products. Don’t use stock or AI images.
  • Do multiple takes to avoid blurry photos
  • Don’t include logos, text, or watermarks in or on the photo, unless it appears on packaging or wrapper that the product comes in

Some additional top tips for header images include:

  • Have a minimum of 5 products tastefully composed, with the largest item in the middle. Avoid using single products photos
  • Choose a clean and plain background that is neutral in colour to complement the bright colours of the products. Shooting from directly above the product makes this easier.

Some additional top tips for item images include:

  • Only show one product in the centre of the photo, with a clear or plain background
  • Take the photo from a 45 degree angle or from the side for tall items like drinks
  • Only include extra items like chips, dips, or decorations if they’re sold as part of the product listing
