Piquing Customers’ Attention with Top Placement
on November 6, 2018 in Business Tips

One of the biggest challenges for businesses operating in the hospitality industry is piquing the attention of customers in a very competitive market. There are a number of strategies to help restaurants do this, both ‘offline’ and ‘online’.

Menulog invests tens of millions of dollars in marketing for its restaurant partners, in order to attract and retain valued customers across a number of different channels. Learn more about Menulog marketing here.

Once customers arrive on the Menulog site or mobile apps, there are a number of ways that restaurants can make their listing stand out to customers, many of which are discussed in the post on Optimising Your Restaurant Listing.

However one of the most effective ways to appeal to local customers is to appear in the top of the search results when customers search for local restaurants on Menulog. In fact, Menulog customers are four times more likely to purchase from a restaurant listed in one of the top five positions on Menulog, which can increase orders by up to 60 percent.

Being able to be featured in one of these top five listings is what we call ‘Top Placement’ and can be secured by taking advantage of Menulog’s Top Placement product for restaurants.

What is Top Placement?

Top Placement allows you to automatically move your restaurant to one of the top five search positions for your delivery suburbs on Menulog. A Top Placement can be secured by bidding for a suburb or multiple suburbs for a weekly fixed fee, provided a restaurant meets the eligibility criteria required to participate in Top Placement. Restaurants also have the option to ‘Buy Now’ for more popular suburbs where places are in high demand.

When a restaurant secures a Top Placement for any given suburb, the restaurant will be ranked on the Menulog website and mobile apps in one of the top five positions for a period of 12 weeks, identified with a ‘promoted’ badge.

What do I need to do to participate?

To ensure the best possible customer experience, all restaurants featured in the top five search positions for any given suburb must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum order value of $30 or under
  • At least 10 customer reviews
  • Average customer rating of four star or higher
  • Delivery Fee of $6 or less (this is applied to self-delivery restaurants only)

Please note:

  • Restaurants utilising the Menulog Delivery Service are only eligible to bid in their home suburb.
  • Top Placement has been shown to significantly boost orders and restaurants must have capacity to service these. Alcohol venues are not eligible for Top Placement.

How do I get involved?

Login to Partner Hub and click the ‘Top Placement’ link on the top right hand side of the screen. If you’re already logged in, you can head straight to topplacement.menulog.com.au.

Top Placement is incredibly easy to use and completely self managed through Partner Hub. If you are out-bid during the auction, you will receive a text message, giving you the option to log back into Partner Hub and place a higher bid.

All winning bids for suburbs will go live on the date noted in Partner Hub. If you are successful, you will be live in the top five search results for a period of 12 weeks after this date.
