Feeling the winter chill? With the temperature steadily dropping, Menulog data showed that Aussies are more likely to order in for a warm home delivered meal. Interestingly, NSW, QLD, ACT and WA residents all demonstrated an appetite for Asian flavours when the temperature dropped.
With scarves wrapped securely around our necks and layers staving off the bitter wind, nothing satisfies quite like a hearty bowl of butter chicken or pad thai, with both coming out on top in each state of the states.
A state-by-state breakdown of top dishes ordered:
- NSW – Butter Chicken and Pad Thai were the top two dishes ordered. Orders surged at Mr Q’s in Leichardt by a whopping 40 per cent with Sydneysiders showing a love for Asian comfort food. Laksa was also a popular dish with an increase of 30 per cent in orders for the spicy noodle soup and saw a 21 per cent spike in lamb and chicken korma orders too.
- VIC – Margherita Pizza and Hawaiian Pizza were the top two dishes ordered. Victorians confirmed that they were pro-pineapple on pizza with Hawaiian and Margherita pizzas as the top two popular dishes. Altona’s Numero Uno Pizza & Pasta saw an order jump of more than 30 per cent. Laksa orders were also up by 21 per cent in Victoria and lamb and chicken korma orders spiked by 11 per cent. Victorian’s showed that the colder weather peaked their sweet tooth with a demand for doughnuts jumping by 14 per cent.
- ACT – Butter Chicken and Pad Thai were the top two dishes ordered. Data showed that orders for two dishes at Belconnen’s Chong Co Thai Restaurant & Bar jumped by approximately 15 per cent.
- WA – Butter Chicken and Pad Thai were the top two dishes ordered. Meat lovers pizza were also extremely popular with a 9 per cent climb in orders.
- QLD – Butter Chicken and Pad Thai were the top two dishes ordered. In Queensland, Thaiways in Albion saw demand increase by about 22 per cent. Meat lovers pizza orders climbed by 21 per cent with lamb and chicken korma orders up by 12 per cent.
- SA – Laksa and Margherita Pizza were the top two dishes ordered. Torrensville’s Oasis Pizza & Pasta also saw a jump in 30 per cent more sales for a classic tomato and cheese-covered pizza.
Menulog data shows that there is a clear correlation between hearty comfort meals and cold weather, and eating in during the colder winter months has never been easier. A great way to encourage orders to your restaurant, can be as simple as showcasing your winter menu to generate interest and more orders!
